You can see how much the water has risen in one week by looking at these photos. 1. Mississippi River in Baton Rouge 2. Camp at Old River 3. Cattle that had to be rescued.
On Good Friday this year, I had the opportunity to participate in the Passion Walk for Christ. It started at Immaculate Conception Church in Lakeland and ended at St. Mary's in New Roads. It was an 11.2 mile walk that took approximately 8 hours. We said the way of the cross and rosary along the way. It was beautiful and a great way to spend my Good Friday. I'm glad I did it. I will not say that it was easy, but it was not impossible. It was just a good sacrifice.
Here are some pictures of the Old River Water Control Structure north of Pointe Coupee. It is where the Mississippi, Atchafalaya and the Red River meet. This structure keeps the Mississippi from changing its course and running through the Atchafalaya. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to ride around the parish taking pictures of the high water for a cover story I'm working on. I will post some more pics later but I thought this was amazing.
The annual Dirty in the Ditch party had taken a brief hiatus for a couple years due to conflicting dates with LSU football games. Immaculate Conception Church has changed their fair dates from the fall to the spring. So I am happy to announce that Dirty in the Ditch 5 will take place on Saturday, April 19! I was concerned that since my new home does not have a ditch in the front that we might have to changed the name of the event, but thankfully our safety coordinator at work came to my rescue. He gave me the theme for this year's Dirty in the Ditch..."It's time to get Crocked on the Culvert." It's going to be a great night. The Foret Tradition band will be play at the fair.
